50th Anniversary Celebration of Full Clergy Rights for Women
Clergywomen: Stoles and Volunteers Needed for Commemorative Service
The opening worship service of Annual Conference 2006 will provide an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the 50 years of full clergy rights for women in the United Methodist Church. As part of the service, the altar will be adorned with stoles – symbols of those full clergy rights – from Holston's clergywomen. In order to get started, we ask that you bring stoles that you will not be using (green, blue, any special colors/designs) to the "Mother Roots" Clergywomen's Gathering on March 6th. Other stoles (red and white) will be collected on Sunday, June 11 (first day of Annual Conference).
It will take quite a number of stoles to cover the altar and should be a powerful visual statement for our Annual Conference worship. Please label the stoles with your name and phone number. Please note that every care will be taken to ensure that your stoles are protected.

Choir and Communion Servers Needed
The opening worship service of Annual Conference will be a service commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Full Clergy Rights for Women. Please read below to find ways that you can participate in this service. You may respond by e-mail to Carol Wilson.
- There will be a clergywomen's choir directed by Lynn Hutton. The piece, Be Not Afraid, calls for the choir to know only a short refrain. The official rehearsal for the choir will be on Sunday, June 11, at 4:30 at the Harrell Center Auditorium. Please send your name to Carol Wilson if you would like to sing in the choir and mark now the rehearsal time so that you can be present.
- We also need communion servers and persons to hand out candles for use at the end of the service. We want to use a combination of clergywomen, their children (ages 10 and above), spouses, parents, ministerial students, and other male clergy who have been especially supportive. We may have more persons suggested than we can use but we will work to make it as good a mixture as possible and representative of those who are on their journey to ministry. Please send your name to Carol Wilson if you would like to assist with the serving of communion. Also send the names of any persons that you would like to suggest as additional servers who fall into any of the categories mentioned above. Please make sure that you name persons you know will be at Annual Conference that Sunday night and who can be present for a rehearsal at 5:00 on Sunday, June 11.
We will have to get the names and numbers together to see who they all fit. Therefore, please know that if you sign up for the choir, you are a definite. You may sign up both for the choir and server, but we will let you know how our numbers work out so that we can include the most persons and the most representative group. If you sign up as a communion server or suggest other names, we will let you know who is definitely needed by a letter to be sent in May. Watch for it and read it carefully as it will include detailed instructions. Remember, we need to hear from you by March 6 so that we can finalize details. Thanks for your help!
