Children's Day and Workshops at Annual Conference

The big birthday party is just around the corner!...in celebration of the anniversary of John Wesley's 300th birthday, boys & girls from around the Conference are invited to a party at Lake Junaluska on Tuesday, June 10, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. There will be games, birthday cake & ice cream. The children will lead the Conference delegates in the singing of "Happy Birthday to John Wesley" and have the opportunity to make a special presentation to representatives of Asbury Place as a mission project. T-shirts commemorating the day will be available in all sizes for $10.

To get ready for Children's Day, here's all you need to do:

  1. Send, or bring, registration information with you (District & Church Name, leader's names, e-mails & phone numbers, children's names & ages). E-mail Anita with the information in advance, if possible.
  2. Bring lunch & drink for each member of your group.
  3. Bring a small wrapped birthday gift (such as toiletry items, notecards, etc.) per child for Asbury residents.
  4. Bring money for an offering.

Workshop Opportunities at Annual Conference

On Monday, June 9, from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., a variety of workshops will be offered as a part of Annual Conference at Lake Junaluska. Two workshops sponsored by the Children's Ministries Team will be available. They are:

"The Children's Voices - Methods for Advocacy"
Leader: Rev. Neal Christie from the UM General Board of Church and Society
Description: Children are among the most vulnerable in times of war and in times of peace. How do we do advocacy on their behalf? What methods ensure that we will hear their voices at the local, state, national and international arenas? Timely legislative actions and public policy concerns will be discussed.

"Rotation Workshop Model Sunday School"
Leaders: Jaymie Derden, Rebecca Ferrell, Heather Jones
Description: What is Rotation Model Sunday School? Who participates in Rotation? Why use it? How do we plan for it? Led by a panel of children's workers successfully implementing Rotation, come discover if Rotation is for your church.
