Chattanooga: Students involved in a Bethlehem Center incentive program earn points for regular attendance, good behavor and citizenship. At year's end, points are totaled and dollar values are established, according to Karla Kurtz. Students earn from $50 to $250, but they must spend 50 percent on needs, 35 percent on wants, 15 percent on giving to others, and 10 percent in the Beth Center credit union. Personal shoppers were assigned to help the students. "There were tough choices to be made," says Kurtz. "The project is about life lessons, and we have many success stories of children working hard this year because they were a few dollars short of something they wanted last year. We also have many stories of children using their money to buy for their families."
