Ministers' Convocation:
Time to feed mind, body, soul
In order to be whole, clergy know they must care for three areas in their lives: mind, body, soul. However, clergy often neglect one or more of these.
The question that organizers of the upcoming Ministers' Convocation ask is: "Can you be an effective and empowering leader if you are not caring for yourself?"
Under the theme, "Empowering Leadership", the annual 2005 winter gathering of Holston clergy at Lake Junaluska, N.C., will attempt to lead participants in a time of Sabbath, while encouraging them to explore leadership issues.
Sponsored by the Wesley Institute, this year's convocation will feature as keynote speakers the Rev. Lovett Weems, professor of church leadership at Wesley Theological Seminary, and Joy Thornburg Melton, creator of the "Safe Sanctuaries" child-abuse prevention curriculum.
Held Feb. 14-17 at Lake Junaluska Assembly, Convocation costs $50 per person and includes a choice of four workshops. Two full CEUs are available for full participation.
Accommodations are not included. Call 1-800-222-4930 (choice #3) for room reservations at The Terrace, Lambuth Inn, or Lakeside.
Workshop topics include "Leading Lasting Change in the Church" by Lovett Weems; "Spirit-Led Leadership" by the Rev. Beth Luton Cook, director of the office of church ministries at Candler School of Theology; and "Practical Leadership Insights for the Church From the Business World," by Scottie Mayfield of Mayfield Dairy Farms Inc.
