Congregations in covenant

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Members and leaders of six Chattanooga District churches gather for an annual “Covenant Worship Experience,” held Jan. 5 at Bethlehem-Wiley United Methodist Church.

According to the Rev. Angela Hardy, four churches comprising Hands Across the River Parish have worshiped together on the first Sunday of each year since the parish was organized. “We come together to again agree to work together in ministry, to help each other, to do even better than last year,” said the St. Marks UMC pastor. The speaker was the Rev. Renita Thomas of the North Georgia Conference’s church development staff.

Congregations represented other than St. Marks and Bethlehem-Wiley included Forrest Avenue, St. Luke, Washington Hills, and Hurst. From left to right are the Rev. Robert Cox, the Rev. Lurone Jennings, the Rev. Sandra Johnson, the Rev. Sherry Boles, Hardy, Chris Bowles, Chattanooga District Superintendent Al Bowles, and Thomas.
