Holston hires new treasurer
Clyde McDonald

From Staff Reports
Holston Conference will welcome a new director of finance services and treasurer next month, Bishop Ray Chamberlain recently announced.

Clyde McDonald, treasurer and director of administrative services for the North Georgia Conference for 18 years, will assume his new position at Holston's Johnson City Conference Center on April 1.

McDonald was selected by a search committee comprised of representatives of the Council on Finance and Administration, Personnel Resources Team, and Cabinet, according to Chamberlain.

"I join members of the search committee in thanking God for leading us to Clyde McDonald," Chamberlain said recently. "This is a position calling for many skills and experience. It also needs a person who understands both the organization of the United Methodist Church as well as the annual conference. Clyde McDonald comes with both the credentials and the experience."

The Rev. Ron Matthews, who has served as Holston's director of finance services since May 2001, will be reappointed at Annual Conference 2003, Chamberlain said. He thanked Matthews for serving Holston with "exceptional faithfulness."

"He came to us at a time when we needed instant credibility," Chamberlain said. "We recruited him on short notice, and he accepted the appointment with grace."

In addition to his experience as conference treasurer, McDonald has served as business manager and treasurer for the Southeastern Jurisdictional Administrative Council in Lake Junaluska, N.C., since January 2001. He is former mayor and councilman of Kennesaw, Ga., and a past president of the United Methodist Association of Conference Treasurers.

"I am excited for the opportunity to come to the Holston Conference," McDonald told The Call. "After 18 years as treasurer of the North Georgia Conference, I moved to the Southeastern Jurisdiction to be a part of its vital ministry. But realized that I missed the personal contact with the local church and annual conference members. The annual conference is where I wish to fulfill my ministry."

McDonald's wife, Catherine McDonald, is leaving the Foundation for Evangelism where she is office manager. They have four children and two grandchildren.
