Reminder: Missions offering on May1
Each congregation should prepare to take a special offering for Latvia on May 1 or an alternate date, Holston leaders say.
The offering is a part of a conference-wide annual missions project that involves raising money and a hands-on effort. The monetary goal is to raise $125,000 for Helping Hands for Latvia. In addition, each of the 12 districts have been given assignments to collect food, clothing, medical, or school supplies for missions in Zimbabwe or Liberia.
This month, local church treasurers will receive envelopes designated for the May 1 offering. The envelopes should be brought to Annual Conference (June 12-15 at Lake Junaluska, N.C.) by the congregation's lay or clergy representative.
In the meantime, congregations are already in the process of collecting supplies for Africa.
The supplies should be delivered to a designated dropoff point in each district on the days set by the district office. Most districts are collecting supplies about June 8 or 9. A collection list with dates and locations will be provided in a May edition. For more information, contact your district office, the missions office at (865) 690- 4080, or visit
