District Roundup

Chattanooga: Twice each year, Linda Weimer travels to Matamoros, Mexico, where she ministers to children who literally live in a city garbage dump. She first discovered the situation on a youth mission trip with St. John UMC: "When I saw what I saw, I could not ignore the need." Now, Weimer and her church aim to collect 1,000 new pairs of flip-flops for the Mexican children who walk amongst toxic waste and sewage everyday without shoes. So far, St. John has collected 440 pairs; the deadline is June 15. Other church groups are invited to drop off flip-flops at St. John (phone 423-892-2257).
