Henderlight tapped for children's ministry
A children's charity worker and former program ministries director has been selected to head Holston Conference children's ministries. Anita Ayers Henderlight assumed her duties as children's ministry coordinator in the Johnson City conference office on July 1.
"Anita brings a wealth of experience to this position," Director of Connectional Ministries Anne Travis said recently. "Because of her prior experience both volunteer and paid with various children's advocacy groups, she will add particular expertise to Holston efforts related to the Bishops' Initiative on Children and Poverty."
Henderlight has served as director of program ministries at First Oak Ridge United Methodist Church. Since 1999, she has been active in Greater Johnson City's Promise, Girls Incorporated, Children's Advocacy Center of the 1st Judicial District, Coalition for Kids, and the Homeless Education program.
Henderlight's spouse is the Rev. Ken Henderlight, senior pastor at Munsey Memorial UMC. She is a native of Taylorville, Ill., and a graduate of Patricia Stevens College in St. Louis.
Travis expressed gratitude to Claudia Howard, who served as children's ministry coordinator in Johnson City until her husband, the Rev. Rick Howard, was appointed to the Chattanooga District last month.
"We will truly miss Claudia and her contribution to children's ministry in Holston Conference," Travis said. "During her tenure, Claudia endeared herself to the staff and many persons in the conference."
Howard provided "excellent leadership for children's programs in the local churches, particularly in promoting Rotation Model Sunday School," Travis said.
