Letter from Bishop Chamberlain

Your new bishop, James Swanson, will not be able to fit into my shoes. My shoes are not big enough for him!

Bishop Swanson will bring his own, large shoes. He comes with a passion for the Gospel. He comes with authentic compassion for all. He comes with vision, vigor, immense goodwill and genuine faith. I rejoice that the Holston delegation wanted him to come to this conference. The recognition of his leadership qualities and hospitality by our delegation is in itself a wonderful witness.

You will discover an almost instantaneous spiritual connection with Bishop Swanson. I relinquish with an enormous sign of relief my responsibilities to him, for my prayer is answered that Holston Conference receive a great spiritual leader.

I predict that when the story of Holston Conference is written, Bishop Swanson will be remembered as the most beloved bishop in its history.

I leave you in the gentle, strong and courageous care of your new shepherd: Bishop James Swanson.
