Oak Ridge: Central UMC in Lenoir City created a new ministry after a telephone call sparked an idea. When the price of gas shot up, a young woman from the community asked if she could park her car at the church and carpool to her job in Oak Ridge. A few days later, a church member asked the same question. "The idea just snowballed," says Director of Ministries Betsy Switzer. Central is located in a prime spot for commuters, near Interstates 75 and 40, she explains. The church is already hosting six carpoolers and is spreading the word that a total of 40 parking spaces are available. "We share this idea with hope that others will consider this outreach," says Switzer.
