From District Roundup

Oak Ridge: Bob Abston has served Asbury Chapel UMC as pianist for 32 years. His career started at age eight, when his parents bought him a piano and he began lessons. After high school, he attended Perkins School for the Blind and then moved to Nashville. He left his piano behind and it was sold in 1961, but he never forgot the piano and hoped to recover it someday. In 1973 he returned home to Rockwood, Tenn., to open a piano repair shop. Finally, in late 2004, he was called to tune a piano that had been given to an old country church. "As he placed his hands on the piano, immediately, he knew this was his, because of the beautiful artistic carvings," reports Vickie Watts. He was able to exchange the piano for another one, and today his childhood treasure has been rebuilt and sits in Asbury's Family Life Center.
