Shearer joins staff; Cox retires
The conference leadership recently announced two staff changes reflecting both the past and future of Holston.
Bishop James Swanson announced the appointment of the Rev. Laura Shearer to the position of associate director of Holston Conference's Pastoral Counseling Center effective Feb. 1. He also announced the retirement of long-time administrative assistant Bonnie Cox effective Jan. 14.
Regarding Shearer's appointment, Swanson said she would begin working one day each week on Feb. 1. Beginning July 1, Shearer will work half-time for the Pastoral Counseling Center.
"This appointment will help us to better serve the pastoral counseling needs of our clergy, conference staff, and the churches of Holston Conference," Swanson said."
Shearer will report to the Rev. Gary Mauldin, director of the Pastoral Counseling Center based in Knoxville, Tenn. Shearer is currently pastor of West Side Parish in Johnson City District.
After 24 years of service to Holston Conference, Bonnie Cox retired from the Johnson City satellite office on Jan. 14.
"Many of you are aware that Bonnie has been a faithful, effective and beloved member of the Holston staff," Swanson said recently. "Her smile and contagious spirit have endeared her to many throughout the Holston area - She will be missed."
Cox will be recognized at Annual Conference at Lake Junaluska this June, Swanson said. A staff luncheon is also being planned in her honor this month.
