Cabinet's request:
Pray for Peace on Good Friday

On the request of a Johnson City District clergy member, the Holston Conference cabinet is asking church members to pray for peace on Good Friday on March 25.

The Rev. John Bardsley, pastor at Valley View United Methodist Church, recently approached Johnson City District Superintendent Mahan Archer to suggest a conference- wide prayer for peace. The cabinet decided to make the appeal after Archer relayed Bardsley's suggestion.

"Jesus was the Prince of Peace, and so certainly, we should be offering prayers for peace in the Middle East as well as in the rest of the world," said the Rev. Archer, dean of the 2005-06 cabinet.

Bardsley, also volunteer minister of evangelism at Mafair UMC in Kingsport District, said he was a "firm believer in mass consciousness."

"Mass consciousness is the same thing as our intensive corporate prayer life," he said. "If everyone concentrated on the same thing at one time through prayer, things would move. Changes would happen."

Pastors should call other pastors to be sure that a strong current of prayer for peace exists in Holston on Good Friday, Bardsley said.
