From District Roundup:
M&M ministry

Kingsport: Each fall, a team from Glen Alpine UMC travels to Neuvo Progresso, Mexico, to build homes and carry out other ministries. The children's department of Glen Alpine wanted to do their part by providing meals for children at a Mexican school. So Administrative Secretary Fay Davis told them about an M&M fundraiser used at her daughter's church, St. John UMC in Chattanooga District. The idea is to buy tubes of mini M&M candies at Sam's Club or other discount stores, then let kids or youth distribute them to church members on Sunday. Parishioners are then told to "eat the candy up fast!" and fill the empty tubes with quarters. "Each tube holds $14 worth of quarters," says Davis. At Glen Alpine, the campaign runs through Lent. By Palm Sunday, children had raised $1,100. About $80 was invested to buy the candy, Davis says.
