Horace Barker

MADISONVILLE, Tenn.
— Horace Newton Barker, 91, died July 24 at his home. The Rev. Barker, a retired Holston clergy member, served as Hiwassee College president from 1955 to 1980. He also pastored churches including Abingdon UMC and First Jefferson City UMC. He is survived by his wife, Kathaleen Batchelor Barker; daughter, Ann Barker of Vonore, Tenn.; son, Horace Barker Jr. of Chattanooga; sister, Catherine Coleman of Miami, Fla.; brother, Evan Barker of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Aug. 3 at Buckner Memorial UMC. Interment followed at Hiwassee College Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hiwassee College; the Horace and Kathaleen Barker Scholarship Fund at Hiwassee College; or Buckner Memorial UMC.
