From district roundup
Chattanooga: For 12 years, 15 women in the Upper Room Sunday school class at Hixson UMC have raised money for missions through recycled greeting cards. They meet every Wednesday morning, and with fancy scissorwork and an elaborate assembly-line process, create fetching cards that are later sold from a greeting card rack in the church. Each card costs 50 cents, raising as much as $500 a year for missions such as Thanksgiving baskets for the hungry, heating fuel for an elderly lady, and sending a Katrina evacuee child to day care. The women also serve as a support group, says Betty Niswonger. "We listen to each other's problems - and you know we don't gossip."
