New conference treasurer named
The director of finance for the City of Maryville will soon step into a new role as director of finance for Holston Conference. John Tate, age 34, will begin his service as conference treasurer and a member of the Extended Cabinet on Dec. 18, Bishop James Swanson announced.
A member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Tate has served as Maryville's finance director since 2000. He has also held positions as town administrator for Dandridge, Tenn., director of finance for the town of Lexington, S.C., and director of finance for the town of Springdale, S.C.
During his six years in Maryville, Tate managed a $125 million annual budget and an investment portfolio of $25 million. He implemented new computer systems for financial, payroll, human resources, purchasing, and utility billing activities, according to his resume.
He has a master's degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina, and a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee. Tate lives in Maryville with his four sons (ages three to seven) and wife, Kelly.
Tate follows the Rev. Clyde McDonald, who has served as conference treasurer since 2003. Holston Conference has a 2007 budget of $15.89 million.
"During his tenure, Clyde really helped to get our financial reporting in order," Swanson said, following his announcement of Tate's selection to the conference staff on Nov. 21. "It is my hope that with John coming on board, we will continue to see that quality of work and ability as we head into the future."
