What Does the Church Believe About Homosexuality?

For United Methodist responses to the Episcopal Church’s recent endorsement of gay marriages, visit www.umc.org. There you’ll find opposing commentaries (“Pay Attention to What’s Happening in the Episcopal Church” and “What Do Bible, Tradition Say About Gay Marriages?”) as well as a link to the page, “Homosexuality: What Does the Church Believe?” An upcoming Holston online "Talk Forum" will provide an opportunity for you to share your viewpoint.

Numbers: Women Delegates to General Conference

A record 34 percent of the 400 U.S. clergy delegates attending 2004 General Conference will be women, according to a recent United Methodist News Service report. At the 2000 gathering, 27.8 percent of clergy delegates from the states were women. “This compares with a recent report that 18.5 percent of all active United Methodist clergy are women,” UMNS said.

In Holston Conference, 37.5 percent – or three of eight clergy delegates to General Conference – are women. For onsite reports from Holston’s election in June, go to our Annual Conference page.
