African missionaries available to speak in churches

African missionaries supported by the conference and several Holston congregations will be available to speak at churches this fall, the conference missions office recently reported. Herbert and Mary Zigbou of Liberia will be in the United States from Oct. 31 through Jan. 3. Maria and Bill Humbane of Zimbabwe will be in the country from Oct. 25 through Dec. 15. United Methodist telethon: See Willie and get on TV

Willie Nelson, Shirley Jones, Judy Collins and the Faithful Men of Maryville’s Fairview UMC are some of the performers scheduled to appear at a United Methodist telethon this weekend. On Sunday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m., the General Board of Ministries will film “In Mission Together for Christ and the World” at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The actual broadcast will be Dec. 6 on the Inspiration cable network. “We need every seat in the auditorium filled,” a GBGM spokesperson said recently. For more information, click here.

Family violence seminar scheduled in Knoxville

Holston clergy have been invited to attend a family violence conference in Knoxville next month. “Responding to Family Violence: Counseling Techniques for Religious Professionals, Social Workers & Psychologists” will be held 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Foundry, 747 World’s Fair Park. Cost is $25. The conference sponsor is Knoxville Clergy Against Family Violence. To download information, click here.

Spiritual coaching retreat: November in North Carolina

The Intentional Growth Center is sponsoring a Coaching Retreat for Church Leaders next month in Lake Junaluska, N.C. The retreat begins at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3 and ends with lunch on Thursday, Nov. 6. For a brochure, registration or other information, contact Larry Ousley.

Attending Clergy Conference? Park in the Right Place

Ministers attending the Regional Clergy Conference Oct. 16 in Knoxville should be sure they park at the Cokesbury Center at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Cokesbury Center is on the north side of the street and includes Cokesbury Bookstore and the conference offices. All activities will be held inside Cokesbury Center.
