TOP STORY: Special Katrina offering on Aug. 27

The Council of Bishops encourages congregations to take a special offering on Aug. 27, the Sunday closest to the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Contributions to the Katrina Church Recovery Appeal may be made through each local church. Write "Bishops' Appeal 818-001" on the memo line.

Last week in "News Briefs," Holston members were encouraged to purchase hurricane-recovery wristbands through the conference office. Those wristbands have been sold out, but members may purchase additional bracelets through UMC.org The wristbands are $2 each and will provide money to rebuild churches and communities along the Gulf Coast.

For a roundup of stories from Holston volunteers participating in Katrina recovery work, see the upcoming Aug. 25 edition of The Call.
