TOP STORY: Plan now for Ministers' Convocation

Clergy can save $25 by registering early for Ministers' Convocation, to be held Feb. 5-8 at Lake Junaluska, N.C.

Under the theme, "Come to the Mount," the annual meeting of pastors features as keynote speaker the Rev. Laurence H. Stookey, professor of preaching and worship at Wesley Theological Seminary. Bible study leader will be the Rev. James Howell, senior pastor at Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte, N.C.

Program fee is $50 per person before Jan. 15, $75 after Jan. 15. Room and board are not included.

A Christmas gift from Holston: New pews in Mississippi

Holston Conference is raising funds to help St. Paul United Methodist Church in Pass Christian, Miss., purchase 24 new church pews following devastation left by Hurricane Katrina. Wish list item #55: Lowe's gift cards

Does your church group need a new mission project? Twenty-one missions and ministries recently submitted their "wish lists" of needs, ranging from $1 notebook paper to 225 pounds of seed corn.

Number 55 on the 80-item list is "Lowe's gift cards to buy drill bits, saw blades, tape measures, and other construction necessities," a request of the Rev. Harry Howe of Project Crossroads. For more information, e-mail Harry Howe.

Walk Through Bethlehem: This Sunday at Church Street

Church Street United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tenn., invites the public to the 10th annual “Walk Through Bethlehem,” to be held Sunday, Dec. 17, from 1 to 7 p.m. Admission is free. The interactive journey allows visitors the opportunity to journey through the re-created village of Bethlehem as it might have been 2,000 years ago. Church Street UMC is located at 900 Henley at Main, across from the Knoxville Convention Center.
