Danny's Race
Kingsport: In August 2001, Danny Carter was paralyzed with a spinal-cord injury during an Emory & Henry football scrimmage. On New Year's Eve 2002 in Kingsport, 360 runners filled the streets for the Danny Carter 5K Road Race fundraiser. Fred Pinney, a First Broad Street UMC member, organized the race after watching his young neighbor struggle to walk again with limited insurance coverage. Several area United Methodist churches sponsored runners or provided volunteers. Carter's relatives are members of Chilhowie UMC in Abingdon District. For more info, visit www.dannycarter.net.
