Bishop names Wilson for Maryville District
The Rev. Carol Wilson will serve as superintendent for the 62 churches of the Maryville District effective in June, Bishop James Swanson announced.
Wilson, age 43, currently serves as senior pastor for Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City District. Her appointment to the Cabinet is projected and will not be fixed until Annual Conference.
"I am humbled by the opportunity to serve in this position," Wilson said. "I love the local church and look forward to working with the pastors, congregations, and extension ministries of the Maryville District. I pray that we will continue to seek ways to support each other in hearing and responding to God's call so that we may live as faithful witnesses for Jesus Christ in our churches and communities."
Wilson will follow the Rev. Ron Matthews, current Maryville District superintendent, who is projected for appointment as executive assistant to Bishop Swanson.
Wilson has served Wesley Memorial since July 2002. Her previous appointments include Piney Flats UMC in Johnson City District (1997-2002) and Pleasant Hill UMC/Blount County in Maryville District (1991-1997).
