Healthy Communities seminar: April 6
Last summer, Holston Conference engaged in the struggle to inform and aid TennCare subscribers facing the possible loss of their health insurance. A new conference-wide seminar is Holston's next step toward addressing health-care issues that face all Americans, not just those in Tennessee.
Holston leaders, church members, and health-care professionals are encouraged to attend "Holston Churches Building Healthy Ministries" on April 6 at Wesley Memorial UMC in Johnson City, Tenn. The one-day seminar is designed to promote healthy ministries within our churches and communities by presenting speakers and a forum for discussing and creating solutions. With Bishop James Swanson as moderator, presenters include Kenneth Robinson, commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Health, and Gary Gunderson, director of the Interfaith Health Program at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health.
Before the seminar, participants are invited to read "Deeply Woven Roots" by Gary Gunderson, available at Cokesbury Bookstore. Churches with health-care initiatives are also invited to exhibit at the event. Call Paula Postai at (423) 282- 6722. Cost for the seminar is $10, including lunch and snacks. Registration deadline is March 31. The seminar is sponsored by Holston Conference TennCare Task Force and HUES (Healthy Upper East Souls).
