On April 6, Virginia Avenue UMC celebrated
“Preacher Dog Day.” What’s a preacher dog? “A preacher dog is pretty much like any other hot
dog,” the Rev. Larry Murphy told his congregation, “except for the fact that it is going to help pay the conference apportionment that we are behind on.” Murphy sold hot dogs and made a hot dog-shaped offering envelope to inspire members to give to the Fair Share. The hot dogs brought in $440 and the regular Sunday offering doubled, from about $2,500 to $5,000.
