Peace:
What do the children think?
Holston children are encouraged to participate in a peace project that will ultimately decorate the walls of Stuart Auditorium at Annual Conference, June 8-11 in Lake Junaluska, N.C.
Sponsored by Holston Conference Children's Ministries, the project allows kids to express themselves in response to the statement, "This is how I would help the people of the world live together peacefully."
"What are our children thinking about war and peace?" Children's Ministry Coordinator Anita Ayers Henderlight said recently. "Kids of all ages will be aware of the war in Iraq and terrorism from a variety of sources in school, on the ball field, in dance class, in church. In helping kids cope in this situation, talking about hope and peace for the future is important."
The peace project is inspired by the verse, "Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding (Romans 14:19 NRSV)," she said. Children are encouraged to be creative, using construction paper, crayons, markers, or any tools.
For more information, go to www.holston.org/children or contact the children's ministry office at (423) 928- 2156 or anitahenderlight@holston.org.
Children's responses and artwork should be mailed by May 30 to Holston Conference Children's Ministries, P.O. Box 32939, Knoxville, TN 37930-2939.
