Congregations join in annual mission offering

ON MAY 4, Holston Conference will aim to raise $125,000 for Kenya Methodist University through an annual offering in 931 local churches. According to Missions Coordinator Bill Daugherty, envelopes are being mailed to church treasurers in preparation for the conference-wide offering. Clergy or lay representatives attending Annual Conference should take the envelopes with them to Lake Junaluska, N.C., June 8-11.

"People know the need is acute in Africa and that we're helping people in the third world," he said. "This offering will make a tremendous difference in the lives of young people in Kenya."

The university's library and chapel need equipment and construction work, Daugherty said. In August 2003, Holston will send a construction team to Kenya along with funds raised on May 4. Churches have the option of choosing an alternate date if May 4 is not convenient.

Treasurers also will be receiving envelopes for Change for Children, an offering for needy kids to be collected at Annual Conference in June, Daugherty said.
