TOP STORY: Survey addresses ordering of ministry

A draft report by the Study of Ministry Commission for the 2008 General Conference proposes eight recommendations about the ordering of ministry, including the creation of three classifications of ordained elders and separation of ordination from full conference membership.

The commission invites people to read the report and take the online survey by logging onto the Web site and clicking on the Study of Ministry button.

What is "Ordinary Time"?

The term "Ordinary Time" is one of the optional terms the "United Methodist Book of Worship" gives to two periods of the Christian Year. The General Board of Discipleship offers several planning helps and resources for the Sundays after Epiphany, also known as "Ordinary Time I."

Older-adult fellowship: Jubilation is March 18-20

Seniors are invited to Kingsport, Tenn., March 18-20 for three days of worship, workshops, golf, and shopping. For the first time, Jubilation will be held at MeadowView Resort and Conference Center. Keynote speaker will be Jane Marie Thibault, a clinical gerontologist. Worship will be led by the Rev. Jonathan Jonas of First Farragut United Methodist Church. Register by Feb. 20 and save $10 .

Newsweek editor will speak at E&H's Winter Forum

Jon Meacham, managing editor of Newsweek magazine, will be featured speaker during Emory & Henry College's annual Winter Forum Feb. 19-20. The forum, which is devoted to a college-wide discussion of current issues, also features Martin Luther King III, Morris Dees, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Meacham’s speech, which begins at 8 p.m. Feb. 19 in E&H Memorial Chapel, will discuss "God and Politics: From George Washington to George W. Bush."

Wish list item #18: Seeds for Big Stone Gap gardens

Each year, the Big Stone Gap District Community & Renewal Project provides vegetable and fruit seeds for hundreds of needy families to plant in their gardens. At least 225 pounds of corn and bean seeds are needed by April 10, as well as other types of seeds. E-mail Nancy Hobbs for more information.
