TOP STORY: 6,679 attend Resurrection's first weekend

Organizers registered 6,679 for the first weekend of Resurrection, Holston's winter retreat for youth, while expecting at least 4,177 more in the weekend to come. A highlight for many participants, according to the upcoming edition of The Call, was the first-time appearance of the Canadian praise band Starfield. Teenagers also enjoyed free-time activities such as laser tag and strolling the streets of Gatlinburg in sunny 60-degree weather.

See the Jan. 26 issue of The Call for a complete report.

Did you receive more than one youth catalog?

Many pastors, youth directors, and youth have received the "2007 Youth Ministries Catalog" through mailings and at Resurrection. If you received duplicate copies, please use the extra catalogs as evangelism tools. For example, give a youth member two catalogs with encouragement to invite a friend to a conference youth ministry event. "We are deeply grateful to you for your help in distributing these catalogs," says the Rev. Dan Gray, Holston youth ministries coordinator.

Due Feb. 15: Lay delegate nominations for GC 2008

Lay members have until Feb. 15 to nominate lay delegates to the 2008 General and Jurisdictional Conferences, Holston leaders recently announced. Both clergy and lay delegates will be elected this June at Annual Conference in Lake Junaluska, N.C. Clergy delegates to the 2008 conferences will be nominated by clergy onsite at Annual Conference in June.

To eliminate the need for formal campaigning, lay nominees will have the opportunity to communicate with lay members of the Annual Conference through a 50-word bio and photograph in the “Book of Reports,” as well as a 200-word personal statement and other information on the conference Web site.

Wish list item #31: Duct tape for Camp Lookout

Camp Lookout, located in Chattanooga District, reportedly uses "tons and tons" of duct tape for crafts, repairs, and overnight camping trips. That's why duct tape is number 31 on our Mission & Ministry Wish List. For more information, e-mail Director Don Washburn (who also happens to do a mean Dr. Spock imitation on the Resurrection stage).

Jubilee Sunday: It's this Sunday

United Methodist congregations will be among those praying for international debt relief as part of an observance of Jubilee Sunday on Jan. 21. The Jubilee USA Network marks 2007 as a Sabbath year, "when people all over the globe focus on canceling unjust debts owed by impoverished nations in Africa, Latin America, and Asia to wealthy countries and institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund."
