'Nothing bad has ever happened at our church!'

According to the General Board of Discipleship's "Safe Sanctuaries" site, that's what many people believe about their own churches. In the past few years, numerous Holston churches have established "Safe Sanctuaries" policies and practices to help ensure that nothing bad does ever happen.

Visit this "Safe Sanctuaries" site for updated information, including frequently asked questions ("Who are the abusers?") and a test-case scenario that asks, "What would you do?"

Dark secrets online: Who said that?

"I can’t tell you how many hundreds of times people have told me that 'I’m going to tell you something, Pastor, I’ve never told anyone before.' I realized that people are carrying around dark secrets, and the Web site is giving them a first place for confession.”

— The Rev. Craig Groeschel, founder of LifeChurch, which has set up mysecret.tv as a forum for people to confess anonymously on the Internet. The site is one of a few that has advantages and disadvantages, according to the New York Times.
