Parish nurse seminars in January & March 2004

Tennessee Wesleyan College – Fort Sanders Nursing Department is sponsoring two seminars on parish nursing. On Jan. 22, a one-day seminar, “The Many Facets of Spiritual Care,” will be held at Cokesbury Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Nurses, social workers, lay church workers, and pastors interested in beginning parish nurse programs are invited. For currently licensed registered nurses who are already working in their congregations or who wish to begin parish nurse ministries, a four-day education course will be offered March 16-19 at Cokesbury Center. Christian educators retreat scheduled for February

Christian educators are encouraged to attend the “2004 Christian Educators Fellowship Retreat,” Feb. 22-24 at Oak Tree Lodge in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. The speaker will be Betty Brown, author of “Living Successfully with Screwed Up People.” For more information, contact Darres Carter at (423) 246-4471.

Scholarship money available for journalism students

United Methodist students interested in religious journalism careers have until March 2004 to apply for scholarships from the denomination’s communications agency. Scholarship amounts range from $2,500 to $30,000. For more information, click here.

Two big Holston Conference events in March 2004

Registrations are currently being accepted for two major Holston events in March 2004. Sponsored by the Children’s Ministry Team, “March Forth for Children” is a conference on advocacy, education and action, scheduled March 5-6 at Cokesbury Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Abingdon church collects coats for Afghan children

When Abingdon native and soldier, Capt. Scott Moretz, was asked what he wanted for Christmas, he requested coats for local children where he is serving in Afghanistan. Pleasant View UMC is now collecting new or gently used children’s coats and new mittens, scarves and socks to send to Moretz. For more information, call Pleasant View at (276) 628-6323.
