UM101, an online introductory course about the United Methodist Church, premieres Dec. 1. The course is intended for busy people to learn about the church -– its roots, theology, structure, connectionalism and current challenges – on their own schedule. The course is produced by United Methodist Communications and will be available 24 hours a day. Cost is $12 per person. Sign up here.

From the ‘great Christmas gifts’ department: E & H art

The Emory & Henry College Student Art Association will host its annual Silent Art Auction Dec. 4-8 at the college in Emory, Va. The auction will be held in the Board of Visitor’s Lounge II of the E&H Van Dyke Center. Participants may provide written bids for artwork produced by students, professors and staff members. Who won the 2004 Resurrection T-shirt design contest? Powell United Methodist Church in Knoxville District. Now, Powell youth are taking pre-orders for the ever-popular souvenirs. Two big Holston Conference events in March 2004

Registrations are currently being accepted for two major Holston events in March 2004. Sponsored by the Children’s Ministry Team, “March Forth for Children” is a conference on advocacy, education and action, scheduled March 5-6 at Cokesbury Center in Knoxville, Tenn. “Jubilation 2004,” the fourth gathering of senior adults in Holston, will be held March 28-30 at Glenstone Lodge in Gatlinburg, Tenn. For more information or to register, e-mail the connectional ministries office or call (865) 690-4080.

Parish nurse seminars in January & March 2004

Tennessee Wesleyan College – Fort Sanders Nursing Department is sponsoring two seminars on parish nursing. On Jan. 22, a one-day seminar, “The Many Facets of Spiritual Care,” will be held at Cokesbury Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Nurses, social workers, lay church workers, and pastors interested in beginning parish nurse programs are invited. For currently licensed registered nurses who are already working in their congregations or who wish to begin parish nurse ministries, a four-day education course will be offered March 16-19 at Cokesbury Center.
