Need a Vacation Bible School mission emphasis? Think potatoes

The Society of St. Andrew invites Vacation Bible School groups to participate in the organization’s “Love by the Pound” ministry this summer. The program is designed to supplement VBS materials by offering a mission emphasis in which students learn about hunger in America. VBS groups are encouraged to raise $50, a nickel at a time, to feed the hungry. A nickel donated to St. Andrew is enough to deliver a pound of salvaged potatoes to the nation’s hungry. To order the free packet, send e-mail, call (800) 333-4597, or click here.

Gone to a better place: Who said that?

“They were not frightened. They knew if something happened, then they would be with the Lord. And that’s not a bad place to be.”

– The Rev. Jerry Parker of the First Baptist Church in Cary, N.C., recalling Larry and Jean Elliott, two of four Southern Baptist aid workers killed in a March 15 attack in Iraq. Parker was quoted in the Washington Post.
