How to help earthquake victims in Iran

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is providing an emergency grant of $10,000 to faith-based partners in Bam, southeastern Iran. Following the deadly earthquake that killed, injured or left homeless tens of thousands, the funds will supplement installation of tents and provide clean drinking water for stricken families. Money and emergency supplies are critical needs. Specifications for assembly of health and school kits may be found online. It is also possible to make monetary donations at this website.

Who said that? A purpose-driven hunger

“I know that journalists often shy away from stories of religion and faith. But this is more than a fad. I think the popularity of this book and discussion might say something about a hunger or hope to get more meaning out of life.”

– Al Tompkins, who writes a daily online column for journalists, providing story ideas. Tompkins was commenting on the popularity of the bestsellers, “A Purpose-Driven Life” and “A Purpose-Driven Church” by Rick Warren.
