The Association for Couples in Marriage Enrichment is offering leadership training March 8-12 at Buffalo Mountain Camp and Retreat Center in Jonesborough, Tenn. A special report recalling friendships with Martin Luther King Jr. will be featured on the United Methodist News Service Web site beginning today (Jan. 14) and continuing through February. Walking with King includes the recollections of several prominent United Methodist leaders closely associated with the civil rights leader, whose birthday is observed Monday, Jan. 19.

Covenant discipleship workshops coming this month
In December, 550 active clergy received e-mails about the formation of covenant discipleship groups. About 150 have responded and many will attend planning workshops that outline the theology, procedures and values of covenant discipleship groups. Holston clergy are invited to one of the three following workshops, each scheduled for 1-3 p.m.: Tuesday, Jan. 20, Pleasant View UMC, Abingdon; Wednesday, Jan. 21, White Pine UMC; or Wednesday, Jan. 28, Ooltewah UMC. All materials will be furnished. There is no charge. For more information, e-mail James Green or call (865) 690-4080.

Scholarships available for students in UM colleges
The United Methodist Higher Education Fund (UMHEF) is offering 275 scholarships for college students whose churches will provide matching scholarships. Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students must attend United Methodist-related colleges or universities. Applications will be accepted Feb. 1 or later. For more information, visit the UMHEF website or call 1 (800) 811-8110.

This weekend (Jan. 16-18) and next (Jan. 23-25) thousands of young people will pour into Gatlinburg, Tenn., for Holstons annual winter spiritual events in the Smokies.
