UMW annual meeting rescheduled Oct. 2-3

Weather-related damage to I-40 and flooding in Western North Carolina forced leaders of Holston's United Methodist Women to postpone the annual meeting scheduled Sept. 18-19. The meeting has been rescheduled for Oct. 2-3, reports UMW President Ellen Moore.

Give me that Vol spirit in church: Who said that?

"In this conference, I want to help them understand they are on a winning team. I want them to have the same enthusiasm that I saw at Neyland Stadium last Sunday evening. That's what I want to see."

-- Bishop James Swanson, referring to his belief that too many people in the church have a defeatist attitude, in a recent article appearing in The (Maryville) Daily Times. See the upcoming Oct. 8 issue of The Call for the article.
