TOP STORY: TV ads may draw visitors to your church

The United Methodist Church will run six television commercials for a two-week period, including one developed for Spanish-speaking viewers. Timed for the back-to-school season, the ads started Monday, Sept. 6.

"The message of the church is a message of hope and welcome," said the Rev. Larry Hollon, top executive for United Methodist Communications. "At a time when the world seems divided and angry, it's very important that the people of the United Methodist Church speak of our hope and our openness."

Visit The Call’s website, where complete text of all letters to the editor are available. The most current topic: Alleged racism in the Southeastern Jurisdictional bishop elections.

Who said that? Reflections on a segregated era

"If we are a connectional church, then the wealth of resources we have as a denomination ought to be available to black churches and all churches."

-- Rev. Gilbert H. Caldwell, a retired United Methodist pastor living in Denver, in a United Methodist News Service commentary. Caldwell's comments follow the recent Central Jurisdiction reunion.
