Local churches deliver mission kits in droves

Holston mission leaders are again expecting record-breaking numbers of hands-on mission kits, as local churches deliver supplies destined for needy people in Liberia and Zimbabwe throughout this week. Big Stone Gap and Wytheville Districts have already collected their kits, but other districts are still accepting supplies. Find out your district's drop-off location and deadline, click here.

Volunteers in Mission rally happens June 30 in N.C.

United Methodist Volunteers In Mission will host the "Summons for Service," the 25th annual UMVIM Rally at Lake Junaluska, N.C., June 30-July 3. Volunteers can explore how their passion to serve God can intersect with the needs of people around the world. Featured preacher is Bishop Robert Fannin of the North Alabama Conference. 50 characteristics of disciple-making congregations

The General Board of Discipleship recently asked its staff members, "What are the characteristics of a local congregation that is successfully making disciples of Jesus Christ?" Their answers are grouped under headings such as "Worship and Hospitality" and "Small Groups." Read the answers, and then send in your own suggestions.

GNumbers: These churches really want to help children

What Holston church gave the largest per-member gift to Holston Home for Children in the first half of this year? Browder Memorial UMC in Maryville District, with $204 for each of its 20 members.

In second and third places are Cameron UMC, Kingsport District ($103 per member), and Bybee UMC, Morristown District ($92 per member). The largest total contributor is Keith Memorial UMC, Cleveland District, with $17,051.
